Create a Website

Friday, February 12th, 2010

There are countless ways of creating a website. In fact, there are various scripts or applications available on the Internet that helps on the creation of these websites. May it be a blog or an eCommerce site, there will surely be an application that would help create these type of sites.

Usually, sites hosted using the cPanel control panel will often have the RVSiteBuilder application. These are great website builders that will help on creating static websites. If not, there are programs such as Adobe Dreamweaver that will assist on creating a static website as well.

If the user wishes to create a more dynamic website (one that has a lot of user interactivity going on such as blogs, eCommerce and more), they can try some open source applications that will help them fulfill their needs.

A good example of an all-rounder content management system or CMS is Joomla. It is used by millions of websites worldwide and has a good reputation as well. In fact, there are a lot of prominent sites that are run by this CMS as well.

Blogs can be created with the use of WordPress, a very popular and versatile publishing platform. It has a lot of themes as well as plugins that allow the creation of a very interactive site. In fact, it isn’t only blogs that are created out of WordPress, anything that has to do with publishing content can be made out of WordPress.

As for eCommerce, there are a number of options to choose from. Prestashop is a good solution for any site that wishes to sell products. In addition to that, Magento can also be used. However, Magento tends to be quite heavy in nature which is why not many shared hosting plans can be run on it.

All of the applications given above are open source. This means that the user is free to modify them in any way provided that they comply with the GPL Open Source License. In addition to that, these applications are well known on the Internet so support is not a problem either.

Basics of Website Creation – Getting the right niche

Tuesday, February 9th, 2010

There are millions of site on the World Wide Web and each covers different topics in different languages as well. When a user searches on a specific topic on the search engine, they will see at least hundreds of thousands of sites if not millions that are talking about a particular topic.

However, this does not mean that it is simply impossible to rank well on these search engines. All that is to do is to create a good site with the right niche. The term “right niche” is very dynamic. In fact, it all depends on the user themselves. The right niche that they can choose is one that they are interested in.

The topic “how to make money” or websites such as social networks should be avoided at all costs. This is because the making money topic is more often synonymous to scams or stuffs that doesn’t even work in the first place and if they do, it will be very hard to find as well since the user has to siphon between the good methods and the bad methods.

Social networking sites on the other hand costs a lot to set up. Creating a basic social networking site is possible through various scripts available on the Internet but to create one that is attractive, it will cost the user at least a few thousand dollars. Not only that, the user will have to do some heavy advertising as well and this will cost them a lot more money.

Instead of doing all of this, focus on topics that the user is actually interested in. If the user likes to travel, why not create a site dedicated to travelling. They can focus on a certain place or a certain region in the world. The point here is to be a lot more specific since these will be a lot easier to rank in the search engines as well.
