Extracting an Object from a Photo

There may be times where there will be a need of extracting an object from a photograph. There are various ways to do so and today we’ll cover some of the ways of doing it correctly.

We’ll use extract the parchment below using the Magic Wand tool. It will take no more than a minute to do it.

Open up the photograph above with Adobe Photoshop and click on the Magic Wand tool. Once that is done, click on the white background and delete it. Voila! You’re done.

The other way is by using the magnetic lasso tool. It is suitable for complex photographs and those that have a variety of colors.

Open the same parchment photograph using Photoshop and click on the magnetic lasso tool.

Then right click the border of the parchment and start moving around the outer side of the parchment. Do this till all the outer part of the parchment is covered and that the parchment is being selected. If at any point a mistake is made, click Backspace. It will go to the last point saved.

Once this is done, click Ctrl+Shift+I to choose the inverse. Then press delete and voila! You’re done once again.lasso-result
