Redesigning a website can either bring joy or sadness to a site owner. Why joy? This is because with a proper site redesign, it can bring a lot of new visitors to the website. It can also bring sadness if the redesign messes up with the search engine optimization that has already been made to the website.
An important factor to consider while redesigning a website is to get ready with all the 301 redirects. This must be done to all URLs that need to be changed while redesigning the website. Not only will this help with SEO but it also reduces the chance of a visitor stumbling to a 404 page.
Next is to install all analytics code inside the website. May it be Google Analytics or any other type of analytics that the user has in mind, install it as soon as possible so that it can track what is going on outside of the website. Users can see any faults that they may have had during the redesign with the help of analytics as well.
A website with a high-traffic or has a lot of visitors coming in should make sure that most of the highly used features are still accessible by the visitors.
Canonicalize the website by redirecting the traffic from the non-www to the www version of the website or vice versa. Search engines such as Google tend to think of the two versions as a separate entity and unless the site owner wants to get penalized for duplicate contents and such, it may be best to do the redirect.
Remember to stick to the 5 seconds rule. Make sure that the main information is accessible within 5 seconds and if it takes longer than that, site owners may find themselves having a high bounce rate.

Google Analytics – This may be one of the best analytics on the Internet. Best of all, it is also available free of charge. All there is to do is to register for a Google Webmaster or Gmail account and place the code needed so that the program can start tracking the website.
Omniture Analytics – Omniture analytics is used by the big companies such as Overstock and many more. They offer an in-depth explanation suited to the amount of money paid. In fact, Omniture is one of the most famous online optimization companies in the world.
Woopra – This is another premium analytics solution to those that are willing to pay for it. A good thing about Woopra is that users will be able to check their analytics not through a website but through a free software that can be downloaded for free.

It is noticeable that whenever a user keys in a term to search on a search engine, particularly Google, there will be at least a few links to YouTube. This happens to a lot of keywords and what this relates to is that for a keyword that is moderately to less competitive, it may be a lot easier to get noticed through a Youtube video instead of an optimized page.
This was pointed out by Matt Balleck on a recent study made by Forrester. It stated that a well optimized Youtube video is 500% more likely to show up on the first page of Google instead of a page or a website that is well optimized.
However, this may be limited to keywords that Google do offer video results and most often than not, there will be video results to a lot of keywords as well.
So, head on to the local studio and start shooting some videos for YouTube.

A blog can be installed within minutes with the right host and the right type of application. However, there are choices to think about before choosing the right content management system for the blog itself.
First off, think of the things that need to be available on the blogs. Will there be any videos that need to be uploaded? Or will there only be text and pictures. Do you also need a plugin to put the advertisement in place and is it achievable with the content management system?
If the answer to all of those questions is yes, then you will be better off with Wordpress. Wordpress has a lot of features that would suit any blog owners. Users can embed videos and even play with some of the plugins that are available on its site. Most of these plugins are free so there would be no harm in trying them.
Try getting hosts that have an all-in-one installer in the control panel. Most of the hosts today are equipped with these programs and a good example of it is Fantastico. Installing Wordpress in Fantastico would be a fast and painless experience. Another good example would be Scriptaculous. These two applications would handle all of the installing themselves and all there is to be done is a few clicks on the mouse.

There are countless ways of creating a website. In fact, there are various scripts or applications available on the Internet that helps on the creation of these websites. May it be a blog or an eCommerce site, there will surely be an application that would help create these type of sites.
Usually, sites hosted using the cPanel control panel will often have the RVSiteBuilder application. These are great website builders that will help on creating static websites. If not, there are programs such as Adobe Dreamweaver that will assist on creating a static website as well.
If the user wishes to create a more dynamic website (one that has a lot of user interactivity going on such as blogs, eCommerce and more), they can try some open source applications that will help them fulfill their needs.
A good example of an all-rounder content management system or CMS is Joomla. It is used by millions of websites worldwide and has a good reputation as well. In fact, there are a lot of prominent sites that are run by this CMS as well.
Blogs can be created with the use of Wordpress, a very popular and versatile publishing platform. It has a lot of themes as well as plugins that allow the creation of a very interactive site. In fact, it isn’t only blogs that are created out of Wordpress, anything that has to do with publishing content can be made out of Wordpress.
As for eCommerce, there are a number of options to choose from. Prestashop is a good solution for any site that wishes to sell products. In addition to that, Magento can also be used. However, Magento tends to be quite heavy in nature which is why not many shared hosting plans can be run on it.
All of the applications given above are open source. This means that the user is free to modify them in any way provided that they comply with the GPL Open Source License. In addition to that, these applications are well known on the Internet so support is not a problem either.

Inspired by Tim Van Damme, a vCard is an online business card that can be used by companies as well as individuals to give out their basic information. A lot of these vCards have only one page and it shows some of their information as well their social networking pages. Most of these vCards follows roughly the original design made by Tim Van Damme.
Tim Van Damme – This is where it all began. This vCard has a minimalistic design that looks rather simple yet attractive as well. All of the information needed about the author is given on the site.
Nouincolor – Nouincolor uses very little combination of colors and mostly in shades of gray but it didn’t stop making the site look attractive.
Maykel Loomans – This site offers a very basic introduction of the owner but it has a lot of social networking links that would accommodate with this lack of information.
Visuacademic – Like many other vCards, Visuacademic is very simple and has an attractive illustration as well.
Alibahsisoglu – This site takes the iPhone fever to a whole new level with its attractive usage of the iPhone as the base of the website.
Jan Van Lysebettens – The designer for this site has made a very good use of nature for its vCard purposes.
Micheal Betsch – The design for this vCard is rather humble and yet quite amusing in a way. It gives all the information that the owner wishes to give that makes it very easy for visitors to keep in touch.
Rogie King – The usage of a wooden layer as well as a carbon background creates a very attractive and pleasing effect for the site.
John Bloomfield – The owner of the vCard incorporates a good usage of flash in its site that makes it look rather elegant and trendy.
Lekevicius – Black and white looks very trendy on the site. A good inspiration to those wanting to create a black and white vCard.
